Meditation number 79

THREE MANIFESTATIONS

What we were, what we are and what we shall be!
What we were was manifested at the cross of Calvary when hearts just like ours hated the Lord Jesus without a cause and with vehement hatred requested His death.
What we are presently will be manifested at the judgment seat of Christ, not what we appear to be, but what we are really in our inward and practical life. It is absolutely true that, for those of us who have trusted in Christ as personal Savior, we are now the sons of God (1 John 3:2), this is the relation which is ours now; but what we are in practice, our true present spiritual condition will be manifested in order to receive the Lord's appreciation, as to things done while in our physical body, good or bad (1 Cor. 4 5, 2 Cor. 5:10). So then BE WHAT YOU ARE, that is to say that our practical life manifests that we really are children of God and then we shall not be ashamed at His coming.
Finally, what we shall be will be manifested when He shall be manifested. We shall then be perfectly like Him (1 John 3:2), in body too, with glorious bodies like unto His glorious body (Phil. 3:21).
We were by nature children of wrath, we have become children of God by faith in Christ. It behooves us to walk as children of God, in light and love (Eph. 5:1, 8). Nothing can change what we were, nor what we will be, but what we are today, practically, we have full responsibility for. So then BE WHAT YOU ARE!
