We find four instances, one in each of the four Gospels, where the Lord Jesus said "I will", expressing his will directly. In the first three (Mat. 8:3, Mark 1:41, Luke 5:13) His will is expressed towards a poor leper for whom the Lord willed that he be cleansed (healed): "I will, be thou clean". As we consider the leper as a picture of the sinner, and knowing all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, we are reminded of 1 Tim. 2:4. There can be no doubt that He loves sinners and wants (wills) their cleansing from sin by his own most precious blood. Then in the last Gospel, the Gospel of John we read the wondrous words of the Lord Jesus "Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am" (17:24). His expressed will not only desires the cleansing of the guilty sinner but his introduction into His very presence in the glory, in the home prepared by Him for the very lepers He cleansed! What love!
