Meditation number 23

Division

Is there not a searching lesson for us in 1 Kings 3:16-27? We learn there how the wisdom of God manifests hearts. One woman revealed her guilt by her lack of love for the child while the true loving mother was also manifested. When differences rise up among the saints in the gathering, differences which can cause hardship and even division, what is our attitude? Do we want to be right at any cost, at the expense of dividing the brethren, or are we ready to deny ourselves and our views completely to ensure the well being and the practical unity of the beloved brothers and sisters? True love, divine love can discern when such a course would be compromising the truth. Often, we think we are upholding the truth in faithfulness, according to our views, while in reality we are fighting against another aspect of the truth. May we learn from this poor woman who was ready even to give up her son in order to avoid the division of his body (Eph. 4:1-3).
